Question : VIsta Bubbles crashes Media center! Is it a directx conflict?

My brand-new, quad-core Gateway Media center pc kept crashing while I was using Windows Media Center to watch live-tv with its built-in tv tuner (avermedia brand).

I eventually figured out that this happened when my Visa "bubbles" screen saver came on.

I suspect that the Vista Bubbles maybe uses directX 10 while my tv tuner probably uses directx 9?  (that's just a guess).  My video card is a NVidia GeForce 8500GT ( a pretty decent video card)

Question:
What is the most likely cause of this blue screen of death?  (btw, when it crashes, it just freezes with no clues in the event viewer just before the event)

This is just a matter of curiosity because I just turned off my screen saver and media center has been up for days of continuous recording.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated,
Mike

Are you sure that you havent got your power settings set to suspend or hibernate your PC at the same time your screensaver turns on?

TV cards do not use direct x, only graphics cards (its a 3d processing api). Your graphics card is DX10 compliant, by the way.

If your power settings are not the cause, try booting from your vista disc and running the detect and repair windows problems utility
