Question : XP media center 2005, blue screen flash on boot, can't read error message?
|

Hello, I have a Sony Vaio laptop with XP media center 2005 that was brought to me In all boot modes (safe, normal, command prompt) it will boot for 6 seconds and flash up a blue screen for a 1/4 second and then automatic reboot. I've even tried a camera to capture the image before it goes away but I cannot read it. (on command prompt it gets to mup.something and then does bluescreen flash) I do not have the system disks for this machine, there is a system restore partition but that does not allow me to do a repair install. (I have XP pro and XP home oem disks available to me though)
Is there any way I can find out what that error is?
(I have ran a complete memtest and hitachi drive fitness boot cd's) The memory is good and the hard drive is good. Also booted into knoppix with no issue.

You can turn off the automatic reboot on error option without even getting into Windows if you can get into what is called the Advanced Options Menu: as your computer boots up (before you get to the Windows logo), keep pressing and releasing the F8 function key (don't just hold it down as you are likely to get a "stuck key error" from the BIOS). Then, when that menu comes up, choose the option called "Disable automatic restart on system failure".
