elizateh,
Hi!, often if the front end won't connect within a reasonable timeframe it could be a sign that the target application server that it is pointing to has insufficient work processes allocated to Dialog and that the front end connect process is sitting at the back end of a dispatch queue waiting to get in, but doesn't make it within the requisite time frame.
Questions to think about here would be?
- are on-line dialog users within the same application server getting extended response times (long wait times in the performance stats) indicating that they are spending extended periods on dispatch queues.
- if wait times are long in general on that app server, then is the app server running at full processor/memory loading or are the profile parameters just set to choke down the number of concurrent processes.
- If the app server isn't busy and the wait times are long, then consider adding more dialog work processes (increasing the multiprogramming level) to the application server by changing the profile parameters - but take it easy here because if you go to high the operating system will just start thrashing and you lose benefit - however adding about 10% of the current number of dialog work processes would be a good start and if that number comes to less than 2 - try adding 2 and see whether the wait times are coming down. Once the wait times start to come down, then you will begin to give new front end connect requests more of a reasonable window in which to make their entrance into the world.
If wait times aren't bad on the target application server then I would want to know things like - what times of the day does it happen - what other processes are running when it happens - is it always the same time etc. etc. etc.
Let me know if you have any questions on that lot!!
Best of luck!!
