Question : SQL server desktop engine "The instance name specified is invalid"

Hello,
I am trying to install MSDE2000a.exe; it unpacks properly, setup launches then immediately pops the an error "the instance name specified is invalid".  This is the first install of msde and the system (XP,Dell) is fairly new and clean.

Answer : SQL server desktop engine "The instance name specified is invalid"
