Question : Purging deleted mailbox information from the message store

I have deleted several users with large mailboxes (over 2gb) from my exchange server but the size of the information store has not been reduced. I have waited several weeks for the built-in maintenance utilities to clean house but the information store still has not recovered any space. I'm assuming I need to manually purge or re-index the message stores to accomplish the task. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is for doing this. Or direct me to a simple how to guide for this?

Exchange will not automatically recover drive space from the physical file.  You will need to run an offline defrag to recover the space.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/192185.

The online maintenence that runs every night only optimizes the files it doesn't remove whitespace.
