Question : Backup Exec. won't run backup

I have a Dell Proliant Server running SBS 2003 with Symantec Backup Exec. I had Dell come out to replace the Travan drive. The hardware checks out fine, I can run Windows Backup ok but Backup Exec. just keeps failing to complete the job. I woul check the log about twice a week and the job never actually ends giving error messages such as lost connection with the tape device. I have all new tapes as well. What does it take to get this damn thing working again properly?

Frustrated would be an understatement.

Answer : Backup Exec. won't run backup

Doesn't sound like the tape drive is the problem, looks more like it is getting hung up on the files or something. All the data it backs up is local to that server? Seems weird that it would mention losing connection to the agent locally.

Can you try (if you have the free space) making a backup to disk folder and running the same backup job to that instead. That would cut out possible problems with the drive, its drivers, SCSI settings, etc. at least for troubleshooting.
