Question : Microsoft, Terminal Server, Server 2003 Enterprise, Group Policy Folder Redirection

Users log onto our terminal server and have their documents, desktop and desktop background redirected via a GPO. This is fixed for all users. How can I disable the desktop background image being redirected when a user is logged onto the Terminal Server but keep the desktop background being set when they logon to a standard domain PC?

Answer : Microsoft, Terminal Server, Server 2003 Enterprise, Group Policy Folder Redirection

You would create a new Group Policy Object (I just named mine remote users policy) and make all the setting changes you want when the users log onto the terminal server, including the desktop picture redirection.
To change this policy
Computer Configuration - Administrative templates - Windows Components - Terminal Services
"Enforce Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper"
Make this ENABLED

By default is is not configured and on the remote desktop client there is a setting that will allow the user to 'redirect wallpaper' if the user checks this and the server is to to cnot configured the wallpaper will redirect

When you create this policy you need to link it to the terminal server OU and make sure loopback processing is enabled and set to replace.  This means this policy will replace all other policies when the user logs onto the terminal server but will not take affect when the user logs into a domain PC.

If you already have the GPO's set then just make the one change
Computer Configuration - Administrative templates - Windows Components - Terminal Services
"Enforce Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper"
Make this ENABLED
