Question : Windows Picture & Fax Viewer stops working

A recent Microsoft patch may have disabled/un-registered a DLL last week in relation to the WMF exploit.  Thus, Windows Picture & Fax Viewer stops working and people are no longer able to view thumbnails in Windows Explorer.

To re-register the win/fax/viewer, end users were instructed to do the following:

Go to Start > Run and type "regsvr32 shimgvw.dll" without quotes and click ok.

This fix works for most people.  However, a few of them are getting the following error:

“DllRegisterServer in shimgvw.dll falied.

Return code was:0x80020009”
