Question : Symantec Ghost Initializing packet driver and IP Address

Hello,

I have a Symantec Ghost server, and do remote network backups on computers. It works perfectly on every computers except one. That computer has 2 network card, with the same network driver... Now when I specify in my backup/ghost the driver I choose the correct one, then I specify the network settings (IP adress, gateway, etc.)

After that, when I start a manual backup it starts doing the regular setup, then it goes into MS Dos for Ghost, it connect with the proper network card. Then when ghost starts it gets stuck at this error message "Initializing packet driver and IP Address" and nothing happens.

One of the network card is connected with a cable, the other one is not, it is only used on occasion to connect to another machine system.

Is it possible to force the connection unto one network card? As it seems that it tries to go through the 2nd one once Ghost starts. If it is how do we do it?

Thank you,

I had a similar issue. 1st NIC is integrated on motherboard, 2nd in PCI-E slot. The quickest workaround was to disable integrated NIC in BIOS and plug a cable to 2nd NIC.

Alternatively, you might be able to use additional NDIS2 driver parameters in protocol.ini - some supplied cards / NDIS drivers support SLOT parameter. But I personally never tried this solution.

Good luck
