Question : Problem Installing printer driver
|
|
I'm having problems installing and using a shared printer on this Windows 2000 Server Machine. When I try and add a printer listed in our directory Add Printer | Network Printer | Find a printer in the Directory | When I try to select a printer I get the following message. "Could not connect to the printer. You either entered a printer name that was incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server. Click help for more information."
When I try and connect to just a user's shared printer that's not on our printer server the printer connects and appears to install. But when I try and go into the printer properties to print a test page etc I get the following message: "Device settings cannot be displayed. The driver for the specified printer is not installed. Only spooler properties will be displayed. Do you want to install the driver now?"
I've clicked yes many times, selected the driver to install, it "installs successfully" but then when I go back to try and print I get the same thing. I also used HP universal PCS 6 driver pakage to install the printer.. again it said everything was success, but when I go to print, I get the same message.
Can someone help? Thanks

It was a DNS issue... Kind of, I was able to connect to the print server via IP and add a printer manually. It still doesn't work right but it's good enough.
