Question : How do I make default "Program Files" folder somewhere else?

Some of the programs I install are very large, so I want to choose a different partition for "Program Files". I also want to do this to protect my C: partition from program viruses. How can change the Program Files directory in Windows 2008 server? Also, will this have a performance impact doing it like this?

Answer : How do I make default "Program Files" folder somewhere else?

Open up a registry editor (Start, Run, "regedit"), then navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion

You'll see a ProgramFilesDir entry. Change that to whatever is desired. Reboot for the change to take effect.
