Question : Recover file deleted from Windows Server 2003 Network Share
A user deleted a file from our file server via a mapped drive on their computer. The file was deleted a month ago so it's no longer in our backup tape rotation. If I was to invest in software that recovers deleted files, will I find the deleted file on the server or the computer that deleted the file? Is it even possible to recover a deleted file in this scenario?

Answer : Recover file deleted from Windows Server 2003 Network Share

Files deleted from network shares are not put in the recycle bin.
To prevent this from happening use directory/ share security to prevent deletes.
The only way I know of to recover this is to use a 3rd party data recovery tool (google will find plenty for you)
Stop writing data to this server as much as possible, every time you add data to the server you reduce the chances of recovering the files.
