Question : What service is needed to run 'net view' in XP?
|
|
I have XP in Windows 2003 standard server as domain controller. In the past, when I run 'net view', it will list all computers connected to the domain. But this morning, when I run it, it says the list is empty. I thought this command needs 'computer browser' service, so I restart it. Same result. I stop it and it still says the list is empty. Q#1. What service is needed to retrieve a list of hosts online by 'net view'? Q#2. Any other ways to poll what computers are currently online?
Thanks lot.

are you sure that net.exe isnt corrupted? Maybe try replacing from a known good PC?
I would have thought it was the browser service as well, might try the Network Location Awareness?
