Question : Setting up Sharepoint Services 3 for internet access
|
|
Hello,
I've gone by the book to install a basic installation of WSS 3.0 on a 2003 Standard Server. Intranet access works flawlessly when going to the server address http://servername. All I'm wanting to do is set it up so that users can access it from home over the internet using http://teamsite.domain.com. I'm having a hard time finding some simple step-by-step instructions for doing this. I've got DNS setup to point the fqdn to the right address and the firewall open. I've tried messing with AAM and extending the site, but neither seem to work or I'm doing something wrong. I'm back to square one and would appreciate if anybody could get me going in the right direction.
Thanks, Brendon

Answer : Setting up Sharepoint Services 3 for internet access

Well, I don't know why this didn't work before but everything is fine now. All I did was set https://teamsite.domain.com in the internet Zone for the Sharepoint - 80 application. I didn't have to extend the website. I swear this didn't work the first time, but oh well.
Couple other following issues which I found solutions to on EE: 1) Going to a document library site through the new address and opening a file prompted another login. To fix I added the site to the IE Intranet Zone sites list. 2) After I installed the SSL certificate I was getting prompted for displaying non-secure information. I had a logo on all the pages that had an http reference to another site. Deleted the logo, created a picture library, uploaded the logo file, referenced that file for use as the logo.
Thanks again PillalamarriVenkateswaraRao for your suggestions.
