Question : IIS5.1 "Request Control Not Valid For this Service"!?!? HELP!!
|
|
IIS 5.1 WinXP SP2
[1] In IIS MMC the default website has a red error icon and states the following: "The Requested Control is not valid for this service"
[2] In addition, I get an Error when I try to open a web (open in FrontPage) from the MMC. Message states: "You need to intall the frontpage client software to open a web in FrontPage"
[3] FrontPage IS installed (even reinstalled it)...yet I cannot ...
1. See any webs in the via Frontpage (for Local Directory) using any combination (computer name, localhost, 127.0.0.1) ...nothing works.
[4] I CAN however ADD FP Server Extensions to any of the sub-webs and THEN open THAT web in fronpage ONLY by specifying the entire path to the sub-web. For Example, I can open http://localhost/subweb. (from within FrontPage NOT using MMC)
but I cannot open http://localhost...with MMC OR FrontPage.
HELP!

This is a silly question, but can you see anything from a web browser (IE, Firefox) other than the built in ones? I know they share code base with IE, but try the full blown. Otherwise, I believe one of two things is happening: 1. You have a corrupted MSC file for inetmgr. An IIS re-installation may fix this 2. You have a corrupted metabase. Re-install IIS is the easiest way, or use a metabase editor (Metabase Explorer or MetaEdiit, whichever XP has) to try to repair the metabase manually. (Not recommended)
Best of luck, harperse
