Question : grub can't find Linux kernel
I was cleaning up old kernels and now grub can't find either of the two that remain (I ran an rpm query before rebooting). I get this: 1. root (hd0,0) 2. kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.21-32.0.1.EL ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi (one line) 3. initrd /initrd-2.4.21-32.0.1.EL.img My attempts to edit the kernel line have failed to produce results - I can't boot and I can't get to a command prompt that will allow me to see what's there. I expect that I'll have to boot from my original RHES install CD but that wipes out the disk, right? Let me know, thanks.

Not at all, since booting will be performed from your installation CD. Only watch when installation is proceeding. I. e. only if you'd do anything like 'automatical' installation & click ok, then as far as I remember from my own 'old' RH days, this would overwrite existing and create everything anew. So be careful . . . also I don't know how your install disks are set up, but from my SuseLinux I know that it is possible to boot from installation CD's, then after asking for language & keyboard settings you have the option to decide for real installation or boot an already installed system. If that would be possible with your CD's then great, you'd sipmply have to login and reinstall your grub boot loader.
Besides, are you sure you only did clean old kernels ?
