Hello to all the experts.

We had our new telstra shop open about 4 weeks ago and the shop had seven computers installed, this includes the Server
with Windows 2003 small buiness on it . These computers were installed buy the so called Teltra shop Experts.
About 3 weeks ago they noticed that there main server would reboot every 4 hours and they then  telephoned the company who set it up and they replaced the power supply and motherboard.
This did not fix the problem. They then telephoned us to come and see if we could fix the problem,l went into event viewer and found under the system folder these events id: 1013,1014,1001.with the source : SBCore
l then went the microsoft web site and it gave me the following instructions:

A Windows 2003 Small Business Server may shut down unexpectedly if setup was not completed correctly.

You may receive the following errors in the event viewer:

CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Windows 2003 Small Business Server integrated setup was not completed.  Windows 2003 Small Business Server must be a domain controller and hold all FSMO roles for the domain.  In order to facilitate migration from an existing domain, the Small Business Server can function for 7 days after installing without being promoted to a domain controller.  After that time, the Small Business Server must be promoted to a domain controller using the integrated setup.  If the integrated setup is not completed, the SBCore service will initiate a shut down of the server.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, complete the Windows 2003 Small Business Server integrated setup.  To access integrated setup, select "Windows Small Business Server 2003" in the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel.

l have followed there instructions but it wants me to make it into a domain server.ls there a way to turn this function of and leave it setup as a workgroup, or do l have to set it up as a domain server.

Answer : Server 2003 small business want to be a domain server

Small Business Server 2003 (and 2000) MUST be setup as a domain.  In addition, you can only have ONE small business server on your network.  You cannot create trusts to other domains.  And you cannot have more than 75 users.  Also, you can have other domain controllers and servers, but the FSMO Masters MUST reside on the SBS server.  When setting up Small Business Server, you NEED to follow the directions and set it up as it was intended or you WILL have problems.  This means using the Wizards WHENEVER possible.  SBS was not designed to be "played around with" - it was designed to be configured and used in a VERY specific manner.

And yes, you can use it as a workgroup - buy buying the transition pack and essentially migrating away from SBS to a standard copy of server and related components.  But that's not cheap.
