Question : Internet Explorer and MSN Crashing, consistently
|
|
I do not know what is causing this, nothing major has changed on my configuration to spark it, but now whenever I open a webpage, click a hyperlink in a program or launch IE manually it crashes as soon as the page loads. A few days ago this was only for certain websites but now everything appears to cause the app. to terminate. Each time I am presented with the "Application needs to close" dialog.
Each time the error signature is similar to this: AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: wininet.dll ModVer: 6.0.2900.2668 Offset: 0001b820
I have run the system file checker and tried repairing IE to no avail.
This morning MSN Messenger has also started to crash everytime it signs in. What's going on? Is my hard drive about to fail?
The only alteration I have made to my setup was to update Java from the Sun website last week. I have since rolledback to a previous version - which I had installed for many months prior to this problem emerging - but to no avail: both applications keep crashing.
I can't find anything on the MS KB about this. "IE keeps crashing" is apparantly not specific enough, but I can't work out what's causing it.
Please help! Thanks.

righto I took the time to read thru from the top, man you have done heaps since we started, give yourself a pat. What computer are you using to access EE. Do you want those links I provided saved for later/ ========================================== To set the default Outlook 2003 editor
On the Tools menu in Outlook, click Options. Click the Mail Format tab. In the Message format section, clear the option Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages. You can customize this setting in a test installation of Office, then capture your settings by using the Office Profile Wizard. The settings will be saved in an Office profile settings file (OPS file) that you can include with a transform (MST file) or configuration maintenance file (CMW file).
Or, you can use the Outlook: Customize Default Settings page in the Custom Installation Wizard or the Custom Maintenance Wizard to set the default e-mail editor.
After configuring the default editor for Outlook, install Outlook with the customization file (MST file or CMW file) that includes this new setting. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011402681033.aspx

Ok you say here>Progress...
Everything is back up to speed except Outlook.
I exported my personal folders file and have tried importing this into the new installation to conserve my emails and directory structure, however when I do so, Outlook puts all my fodlers correctly in the main 'Personal Folders' folder but also creates a duplicate structure in another folder called 'Personal Folders'.
That maybe the problem.. On your default c drive which is now your new home for windows, open outlook and IMPORT your emails from your D drive slave not sure how you can export them as you can nolonger use Outlook on the slave. so your only importing the pst files and folders to this new current Outllok mail handler. Maybe you could just leave your personal files in one folder on your slave for now. Other wise you can simply copy these folders over from D to C but only the contents, maybe it is this exprting that is causing the db up, just copy over the folders or even cut them if they are non windows stuff. If you are installing and adding lots of stuff do remember to patch your machine asap, antivirus up to date, defrag at least once to tighten up the new drive.
How's the new hard drive anway pretty cool hey. like a new operating system ;) Let me know if I can help with anything else. Regards M
