Question : Migration of Windows 2003 server to new hardware with the same license
Hi Experts,
Is it possible to migrate Windows server to new server hardware keeping the same license for the server OS. I have a client that needs to upgrade their server hardware but they see no advantage to upgrading to Win2008 server. It is a small office, and the expense to upgrade to 2008 server is a little too expensive, but new server hardware is required.
Are the normal upgrade migration paths valid using the same OS license. If so, how is this done without the activation of the server causing problems during the process?
Thank you.
Answer : Migration of Windows 2003 server to new hardware with the same license
To migrate with the same license no - that would mean you would have 2 servers up at the same time with the same license, which is a EULA violation.
