Question : Windows XP Media Center Edition

This is probably a very easy question for someone out there. When comparing versions of Windows XP:
XP Home - No remote desktop, cannot join domain

XP Pro - Remote desktop, can join domain

XP MCE 2005 - Remote desktop??, cannot join domain

Am I correct when listing these? If you cannot remote desktop to XP Home, can you remote from it to an XP Pro machine? Does XP MCE have remote access at all?

Getting this straightened out would be great!

Answer : Windows XP Media Center Edition

>XP Home - No remote desktop, cannot join domain
>XP Pro - Remote desktop, can join domain
>XP MCE 2005 - Remote desktop??, cannot join domain

>Am I correct when listing these?

Yes, you are correct.  Here is a relevant article from Microsoft about Remote Desktop:

How to Use the Remote Desktop Feature of Windows XP Professional

Some quotations from the article:

To use Remote Desktop, you need the following:
A remote computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Professional and is connected to the Internet or on a local area network (LAN).
A local computer running Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, or Microsoft Windows 95, with access to the Internet or the LAN.
Appropriate user accounts and permissions configured on the remote Windows XP Professional to allow remote access.

From the above, you can deduce that XP Home can remote to XP Pro, but not vice versa.

Some sites and quotations that confirm that XP MCE can do RDP and cannot join a domain:

By default, the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is not enabled on any operating system version. On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, Remote Assistance can enable RDP. On Windows XP Media Center Edition, RDP is enabled if a Media Center Extender has been installed.

Q. Can I connect a new PC running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to a work network or domain?
A. While you can access network resources on a work network or a domain, you cannot join a Windows XP Media Center 2005 PC to the domain. PCs running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 are designed specifically for home use. Professional features, specifically Domain Join and Cached Credentials (Credentials Manager for logins) are not included. As a result, you will be prompted for your login username/password to access network resources after a reboot or logging back into the PC. In addition, file shares or network resources set to require a domain-joined PC for access will not be available. Remote Desktop and Encrypting File System support are still included.
