Question : Error during Exchange 2007 Install

I'm trying to do a new install of  Exchange 2007 on a clean server.  Every time I try to install the "Mailbox" role, I get the error "Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed."

Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this?

There error isn't exclusive to Exchange, it is a .net framework error. I have seen some reports of an error with the name of the server - special characters etc, which is why I asked. Another one says it is caused by mis-configured proxy settings.
There is no single solution for the problem that I can find.
