Question : ODBC System DSN setup on MS Windows - Need Assistance
|
|
Hi. I am trying to create a System DSN in the Microsoft Windows 2000 ODBC Data Source Administrator but I keep encountering errors. The driver I am using to create the connection is "Sybase ASE ODBC Driver" (version 3.50.00.00). Here is what I enter in the "ODBC Sybase Driver Steup" window.
--- GENERAL tab --- Data Source name: *I enter any name of my choosing* Server Name: *I enter the DNS alias for the server I wish to connect to (I have checked that I can successfully ping it* Database Name: * I enter in the database name I wish to connect to on that server*
When I try to test the connection, I get the following error:
[MERANT][ODBC Sybase Driver][Sybase]ct_connect():directory service layer:internal directory control layer error:Requested server name not found.
What I AM able to do is set up a JDBC connection to Sybase. I think the one key different is that the JDBC connection allows me to specificy a connection port in the connect string.
Is this what I am missing? Do I need to put the connection port somewhere on the ODBC panel? Or, do I need to create an SQL.INI entry and use the lias created there rather than the DNS alias for the server?
I am ver confused, please help.

OK, I'm out of ideas, your instalation seems to be corrupted so I think the only way out is to reinstall Sybase client software. Or you can buy new ODBC driver, that doesn't need sybase client software (version 4 or later).
