Question : Help with creating Bootable CD-ROM with Windows 98 and BIOS files

Hi Experts,

I need to update the BIOS on a new PC that doesn't have a floppy drive.

To update the BIOS I need to add 2 files: AFUDOS.exe and "P5GC-MX-ASUS-0518.ROM".

I already know that:

1. AFUDOS.exe must be run under MS-DOS, not a clone DOS

2. "P5GC-MX-ASUS-0518.ROM" must be on a FAT32 file system - If the file name is shortened, AFUDOS.exe will not run.

I have experimented with using a flash drive with no success - so for the present I want a solution using a CD-ROM.

I have downloaded a Windows 98 Startup Disk (DOS/Win98) [Windows 98 Startup disk with CD-ROM and FAT32 support] from here: http://www.svrops.com/svrops/downloads/zipfiles/win98start.exe.  This file will only extract to a floppy disk.

I have access to a floppy drive on another PC.
I have Nero 6.6 and UltraIso.

Regards,
Leigh

Strange. I have renamed .rom files before, but it might be made to run under a Windows flasher or the bios flasher built into most new mobos.
First check if your bios has this option in it.

It doesn't always work, but try using the * wildcard with the AFUDOS program. eg: AFUDOS. EXE P5GC*.ROM
