Question : IMAP on Exchange Server SBS 2003 keeps getting a 'connection refused' error message
|
|
I have a lab with SBS 2003 on it. The box has 2 NICs. A PC is on the wan side to simulate a machine on the outside / web accessing the box and then a couple PCs on the LAN side.
I want to try out the IMAP from the outside machine. I started the IMAP service and Imap virtual server. No matter what account I use (administrator, a regular user and a remote user) I get:
Connection refused
Configuration: Account: 192.168.102.103 Server: 192.168.102.103 User name: administrator Protocol: IMAP Port: 143 Secure(SSL): 0 Code: 800cccd9
The firewall is turned off on on the server also...
any ideas?

IMAP doens't rely on POP, but it is possible that enabling the POP service caused a script to run which changed something in IMAP. The fact is that after enabling IMAP you should have run the Configure Email and Internet Connection Wizard to select IMAP as an allowed service.
You can also look in the properties of IMAP to see how it allows or disallows connections from various IP addresses. Access this from the Server Management Console > Advanced Management > First Organization (yourdomain) > Servers > Servername > Protocols > IMAP.
