Question : Orphaned User Profile Recovery on XP sp2
|
|
My DC just crashed and i had to rebuilt it. My user profile on my laptop is still intact but I can't seem to copy it to my new user account. I don't want to just copy and paste it, because I need it to work perfectly. I have read the following post:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/Windows_Vista/Q_22874209.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+orphan+profil+user
But the 'Copy To' button is grayed out in the user profiles screen. I have already assigned the Domain\Admin account as the owner of the profile by going to the 'C:\Doc*Set*\UserProfile' directory and changing the owner on all sub items. The orphaned account is still showing as 'Account Unknown'.
How can i recover this account 100% intact?

Log in with the new user to create a local profile. Log out. Log in with Admin. Use the System Applet to select the unknown profile then copy to using the button. In Allowed to Use, select the domain account of the new user.
Do NOT copy the contents manually. There are registry entries that refer to the old account - specifically, NTUSER.DAT, NTUSER.INI and top-level files in that folder.
