Answer : how can i tell what software was used to make a website by the source code

I agree with glumlun that this looks hand-coded.

Rather than worry about the HTML code, which can be edited with any text editor or software like Dreamweaver or Contribute, I'd worry more about any graphics source.  It's hard to replicate things like menus, logos and other custom graphics, so it'd be ideal to get the source files and fonts (at least the font names), just in case.

Some designers are touchy about handing over source graphics, and some don't mind at all.  For me, I figure if the client paid to have it designed, they own whatever I generate, source and all.  If you have a contract, it should be spelled out there what the designer will provide.  If it's not there, ask reeeeealy nicely, as they're under no obligation to provide it.

If you have no HTML knowledge at all (and no desire to learn), I'd suggest Adobe's Contribute as a great page editor.  Just browse to your page, hit the 'check out' button, type your edits, and check back in.  That'll keep you going for quite a while until you need to re-engage with a designer or developer.

Hope this helps!
