Question : Incomplete install of the bde - missing registry entries?
|
|
Why is this happing. When a customer installs our application, a few people do not get the bde installed correctly/completely. The fault is the registry not being updated, with the bde values for the INIT and Native. What is odd is this seems random, not everyone has this problem. In fact only a few seem to experinece it. It has happened on NT, 95, and 98. We use a cd burner, so everyone has the same burn. We have found that by making a copy of the reg keys we can fix it. I would just like to not have this happen in the first place.
Anyone have the solution?

Join the club....our installs are the same way. Especially back when we made the 16-32 bit switch. We use Delphi for our apps with Install Shield Express, and have the same issues. Install Shield Express allows you to explicitly place registry key entries into the install and it seemed to help. Mind that is not scientific research but just a quick pass when we were going to Oracle 8. To make the switch we needed to change the Dll's used in the BDE so I just put the changes into the registry key section of Install Shield and it seemed to work.
Good luck.
