Question : HP NIC Teaming still showing a DHCP assigned address when DNS is installed. Why?
|
|
I have a new Server 2003r2 standard server I just built that I want to make a DNS server. Both nic's were originally DHCP because I had just built the server and was only installing the windows updates and what not. When I went to team the two nics everything went well, I assigned the team the static address I wanted but when I went to install DNS, it told me one or more nic's were DHCP and this configuration is not recommended, blah blah blah. I checked the DHCP server and verified that the addresses previously assigned to the two nic's were deleted (one was already assigned to another machine). A buddy of mine said he remembers running into this sort of thing before but couldn't remember exactly the cause. He said I may need to have one of the nic's static with the address I want prior to teaming but he couldn't remember for sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Are you able to ignore the error and continue with the dns installation?
If not, i would unteam the nics and either give them both statics or disable one and give one a static, install dns, then create your team.
I have teaming for load balancing on my exchange server (which also runs dns) and i teamed the nics after dns was installed with no issues. (however its 2003 sp2, not R2)
