Question : Change Server Name in SBS2K3 what are the implications
|
|
This is a theoretical question purely for my inquisitive mind.
If my Small Business Server 2003 server was called "servername" and then for whatever reason I changed it to "serverothername" what are the implications? What would I have to change to make sure things didn't break.
For one I noticed that SQL MSDE didn't work and so Sharepoint died.

You'd need a reinstall; renaming a Small Business Server (or the domain name) is not possible.

[...] Important: After you install Windows Small Business Server 2003, you cannot change the full DNS name for the internal domain, the NetBIOS domain name, or the computer name. These settings are used to configure Windows Small Business Server tools and applications. To change these names, you must reinstall Windows Small Business Server 2003. ====8<--------
