Question : Fresh reinstall of Windows XP - not getting internet connection - what's wrong?
|
|
Did fresh reinstall of Windows XP SP1a (that's the CD I had) on friend's pc 'cause system was hosed with viruses, spyware etc. Now I want to do the updates. So I do Start>All Programs>Windows Update. It says I need connection to internet. I shut down; plug in cable to connect to my home network; run Internet Connection Wizard and select to "Connect using a broadband connection that is always on". Still don't have connection. Rebooted. Now when I try to get to All Programs>Windows Update, it tries to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and I get "The page cannot be displayed" error. What am I missing?
