Question : MSCONFIG SAFE MODE TO MINIMAL BUT NO PASSWORD WORKS
I setup a XP SP2 machine to boot to Safemode through msconfig but I accepted the default config. Which has minimal selected. When I reboot the pc I get the Ctrl ALT DEL with username and password only. I enter a password but nothing works. I think it is using local credentials and I have tried domain\username. Nothing works. Then I hard shut it down and it prompts me with options but Safe mode, Safe mode with networking and Command Prompt but I am not sure how I can reset the local account since the pc is on a domain. Honestly I am not sure how to approach this issue!
Answer : MSCONFIG SAFE MODE TO MINIMAL BUT NO PASSWORD WORKS
I would download the program found here:
http://home.eunet.no/
~pnordahl/
ntpasswd/b
ootdisk.ht
ml
This will change the local administrator password to whatever (even blank) and that way you can log back onto the machine.
Hopefully this helps
