Question : Auto reply for different mailbox than my own
|
|
I have an outlook 2007 client with an exchange 2003 backend. I have it setup now that I can view other mailboxes on one machine. for example I have my own, then I also have licensing, and billing. (there are reasons they are mailboxes and not dist. lists)
Is it possible to configure it so that one group can auto reply to messages sent to it. I've been messing around with rules but havent got them to work.
Thanks,
~b

You cannot auto reply from groups as there is nothing to store the message in. You can only auto reply from mailboxes and public folders.
Auto replies also need to be enabled in Exchange to work correctly. You also need to have the mailbox that you are setting up as the auto reply as the PRIMARY mailbox open in Outlook, so if your own mailbox is the primary that is the one that has the auto reply rules configured. Rules will not fire on additional mailboxes.
Finally, auto replies are very dangerous things and can cause email loops. Use them with caution.
Simon.
