Question : internal SMTP server can't send mail to Exchange user

A server has an application that wants its own SMTP server- no problem

the Virtual SMTP server on that machine  cannot send mail internally to addresses on the Exchange server on the same domain  but it can send mail to external domains just fine- mail is picked up in the queue and then expires.

What is the trick? I feel I should already know this and i can't come to it!

thanks,

Answer : internal SMTP server can't send mail to Exchange user

The problem appears to be DNS.

in your domain.local zone, you wont have a MX record specified. So, if you add a MX record in your .LOCAL DNS zone pointing to your Exchange server, the IIS server will know where to send the mail.
