Question : can i move the $hf_mig$ file to the D: drive?
|
|
I've run out of space on my C: drive and can't install service pack 1 or delete enough files to make room. Is it possible to move the $hf_mig$ folder with all the hotfix uninstalls to the D: drive? it's 250Mb and i need about 100.
I'm hoping to find someone who's actually done this so it isn't just theoretical. Would you recommend using Partition Magic or another program to resize the active partition?
Thanks

You can move the "$NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$" folders, but leave the $hf_mig$ folder *as* *it* *is*. This folder does *not* contain the hotfix uninstalls, it is the repository of the latest hotfix files and is there to make sure that when you install a hotfix, it doesn't replace existing files with earlier file versions (as was the case with NT4). If you need room on the C:, have you moved the pagefile to the D: drive yet? Did you disable hibernation and make sure there's no hiberfil.sys in the C: root?
You might want to use treesize (http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml) or something similar to find out where your space has gone to.
