Question : Recover lost emails in Exchange with a Message ID
|
|
One of the users here had 5 emails that mysteriously disappeared after printing the attachment of one of them. They are nowhere to be found within Outlook - we checked the Deleted Items folder, as well as all the other folders in case they were moved. I am able to track these messages using the Message Tracking Center feature in the Microsoft Management Console where we manage Exchange.
We were able to identify the messages that disappeared in the Message Tracking Center and get their Message IDs.
Is there a feature within Exchange to find these messages and restore them if they are backed up somewhere within Exchange? Any help is very much appreciated, thank you.

Check and see if you've got deleted item retention turned on - In Exchange System Manager, right click on the store and view the properties On the LIMITS tab, look under DELETION SETTINGS If it's not set to zero, you've got deleted item retention.
Providing your user didn't SHIFT delete the item, you'll be able to recover it for as many days as you have listed under the deletion settings.
Actually, the user can recover it themselves - In Outlook, on the TOOLS menu should be a RECOVER DELETED ITEMS selection Make sure they highlight the inbox, folder, or public folder they want to recover from
Hope that helps.
