Question : Which GHO and GHS files go on which DVD's
|
|
I've used Ghost 2003 to successfully backup, image, and deploy XP, usually by booting a computer with 2 hard drives into DOS and creating 2GB image files (GHO and GHS extensions). This works great and is very fast. Now my images are getting old and I'd like to save them to DVD rather than waste a good hard drive as an "archive" disk. Optimally I'd like to burn them in a way that will allow me to restore them right from the DVD's. The only thing is I'm not sure what order to save them in.
Do I burn them in the order of the date the files were created, like this?
Disk 1 - ASUS8001.GHS, ASUS8002.GHS Disk 2 - ASUS8003.GHS, ASUS8004.GHS Disk 3 - ASUS8005.GHS, ASUS80GB.GHO
Or with the GHO first and then numerical, like this?
Disk 1 - ASUS80GB.GHO, ASUS8001.GHS Disk 2 - ASUS8002.GHS, ASUS8003.GHS Disk 3 - ASUS8004.GHS, ASUS8005.GHS
Or is it going to ask me for the "last file in the series" before the others, thus making the "proper" order this?
Disk 1 - ASUS80GB.GHO, ASUS8005.GHS Disk 2 - ASUS8001.GHS, ASUS8002.GHS Disk 3 - ASUS8003.GHS, ASUS8004.GHS
Sorry if this seems obvious, but I don't want to make a lengthy process even more lengthy because of an assumption.
Thanks

Either Option 2 or 3 would be ok, GHO should always be first however, you'd probably need to switch the DVD more often with Option 3.
Option 2 would be 3 DVD changes. Option 3 would be 4 DVD changes.
Cheers
