Question : Install new motherboard on XP Home

I'm helping a friend who's XP Home eMachines T1742 is powering off every few minutes at random times by replacing the motherboard & memory. Of course the disk drivers are different, so it won't boot with the new board. After moving it to my house, I couldn't even get it to boot before touching anything. It reboots after showing the Windows screen.

Well, I have XP PRO, but I can't do a REPAIR from HOME to PRO.  I'd like to not have to do a new installation because I'm not sure she has CDs to reinstall all her programs.

Is there a way to move the hard drive to another PC and set it to use the new motherboard's drivers, and then move back to her PC?

Perhaps mount her Registry and make some changes, and copy the drivers?

Answer : Install new motherboard on XP Home

Not that I know of.

The only way out of this that I know of is to an in place upgrade.  To do this you will have to borrow an XP home CD from someone.  As long as you have the license key on the sticker on the side of the machine you can use someone elses CD.
