Question : Can Skype Communications be intercepted?

Hello,

Skype claims to use encryption for their communications so that your calls can not be intercepted. I am one of those privacy paranoia people who likes knowing that what he is saying and doing can never be watched or listened to by a third party. I have read that maybe Skype calls CAN be intercepted but I am looking for a professional discussion on this topic.

So my question is this: lets think in cases of worst case scenarios.

What if a government wanted to listen in on someone's Skype communications? Would they have the resources necessary to do so? Lets say a professional hacker wanted to listen in on my skype communications, would they have the resources necessary to do so? What resources would they need to accomplish such a feat?

Finally, are there ANY steps that I can take in order to make ABSOLUTELY certain that neither a governmental agency nor a malicious hacker can listen in on my Skype calls?

VPN? Extra ecryption software? Anything like that?

Thanks in advance! I know its a tuff question.

Answer : Can Skype Communications be intercepted?

if your really worried about security then don't use skype. As previously mentioned skype uses supernodes and any of these could be fake/compromised

if you want secure then setup a vpn between yourself and the party you want to talk to and run a direct ip to ip VOIP phone (either hardware or software) over the VPN.

Grandstream hardware phones work well using direct IP dialing over a VPN as does x-lite softphone
