Question : Sript problem with IE, IM apps, Control Panel, etc.

This is for a customer's system that I'm getting a little frustrated trying to track down...

The problem manifests in several different places, but seems to track back (possibly?) to a common item...scripting options.

- When starting IE, home page is redirected to an MS "runonce" link (prob because I reset his IE settings).  After this, I go to the Home page with is set for the Comcast home page, and am met with a message that the Comcast page has a problem with the system's Internet security software.
- Yahoo IM and AIM Triton both have problems - although he can type messages, what he types doesn't show up in the IM window, and response messages are not seen.  He installed Miranda IM, which seems to work fine.
- When opening Control Panel, we are met with an IE script error window.  We are given the option to continue running scripts on the page (Y/N), but neither option works - window "hangs" open.

This seems to boil down to scripting, somewhere along the line.  Some items of note below:
- Previous security suite was Verizon ISS, which was uninstalled in leiu of the newly-installed McAfee (from Comcast).
- When I arrived on-site, they thought they had a virus/spyware, but it turned out to be the Google toolbar throwing errors at IE startup (Google Toolbar has been uninstalled).  Didn't find any other signs of infection.
- They had some sort of "AdwareShield" app which, through research, turned out to be a bogus antispyware app.  Uninstalled.
- This problem only occurs on 2 of the 3 user profiles on the system.  All are Administrators, but, in the past, the 2 having problems were previously set as Users (only), and had previously had parental control settings applied through both an old Norton app and ZoneAlarm app (both of which are long gone).
- The 3rd profile has always been the "main" Admin profile (not THE "Administrator" account), and has never had any problems.
- The Yahoo online solution to the given problem suggested enabling several Scripting settings in IE.  We did this, but the problem(s) did not resolve.
- In the process of running a McAfee scan right now - will have the results tomorrow.

Any thoughts or ideas what would appear as "Internet security software problem for Comcast", "not show IM text in Yahoo/AIM" - and - throw a script error in Control Panel?  I know this is probably a pretty "wide open" problem, but any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks much!

Answer : Sript problem with IE, IM apps, Control Panel, etc.

My apologies for not keeping up with this topic.  I actually haven't been back around to this system to try any of the proposed solutions (*not* a favored customer here - no real "urge" to get out there unless *necessary*).

I am looking, unfortunately, to close this post for now.  When/If I get back around to the system, and have time to try some things and determine what works/doesn't, I'll repost.

Thanks much, everyone, for your responses.
