Question : linux raid raidtools/raidtab to mdadm

I'm using raidtools, after some wrong modification I made in /etc/raidtab my server fail to start.
So I add to fix the it by booting from rescue CD and edit raidtab.

I far as I understand raidtools is user interface for set raid configuration in the kernel,
so why it involve at boot time?

I would like to migrate on production server from raidtools to mdadm and it is not clear to me how to do it?

Regards,
Addady

Answer : linux raid raidtools/raidtab to mdadm

Neither raidtools nor mdadm actually changes anything in the kernel. What they do is to modify /etc/raidtab, which in turn is used by the kernel and raid tools. Only after the kernel is up and running can it bring the raid volumes on line, which is why it is a part of the boot process.
