Question : SMTP Message queues (outbound) not being processed

I am running SBS 2003 with Exchange ver 6.5. I have a multitude of SMTP connector message queues that are not processing outbound email requests. Inbound and internally routed messages go through but no outbound. I tried the Exchange troubleshooting wizard and it did not seem to come up with anything obvious. The various Exchange services all seem to be running.

Is there a checklist of dependent services for Exchange that affects how it processes emails? How about DNS settings?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated as I am primarily a software developer and not an IT guru and Exchange seems to be quite the convoluted piece of software.

smtpdiag is a great program from Microsoft.

This would be a good place to start, maybe get some information.

Can you see the traffic going out from the SonicWALL? This will help you determine if the email is leaving your network. You can do this under Diagnostics -> Packet Tracing, then run packet tracing on your Exchange server's IP.
