Question : The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database.

Whenever I click on a button or link on a certain page on our website the page hangs forever.  When I check the Event Log SharePoint has recorded thousands of errors, multiple per second, with the message:

The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database.

What would cause this?  Note: no errors are displayed to the user on the SharePoint page.  Why would it take place so many times per second, etc.?
