Question : Windows Server 2003 - Windows Explorer and My Computer are slow during initial display of contents
We have a Dell Poweredge server runnign Windows Server 2003 (R2) Standard Edition with SP2 and all updates current.
Windows explorer and My Computer are extremely slow when opening, it takes around 30 seconds to open. After it has opened, sometimes you can browse normally, and sometimes it delays again. It reminds me of when there is a CD in the drive and it takes time to display the contents of 'My Computer' while waiting to read the CD.
It is also slow when you right click on a file or folder and attempt to view the properties.
This does not happen when browsing the shared folders from the server on another computer. Windows Explorer and My Computer open normally. It only happens on the server itself.
Also in task manager on the server, the explorer.exe process is using between 200mb and 400mb of ram at any given time. I am not sure if this is normal or not.
Any ideas what this problem could be?
