Question : How Do I correct a shared library error ?
|
|
When I start up my computer, I recieve the error message: "the application "Palm Desktop" and "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because of a shared library error: 5 /Microsoft Word/ CarbonLib/CFMPriv_CoreFoundation/" The same happens when I try to open Word.
I use Tiger OS X 4.11.
Failed solutions include: Re-downloading the OS. (I cannot upgrade to a higher OS as I do not use Leopard OS X 5) I have tried my disk utility, and this has not worked either.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I've found a couple of examples of other users having a similar error such as yours that also involved Office.
The solution in almost all the cases was to do an Archive and Install from the Original OS X disk. They had tried what you did as well as repairing permissions, which you might want to give a try. One user did have some luck with downloading and installing the latest Quicktime...which you might want to try as well.
I would also suggest, since it seems that this is in some way related to Office that you might try removing and then reloading Office and/or make sure that you are running the latest Office update. If the Palm app is not dependent on Office, you might just try removing Office and see if it goes away before reinstalling Office.
You might also try creating a new user and see if the problem still exists with that user. If it goes away, then there is just something wrong with the user account you are using and doing the Archive and install probably won't fix it as you will be preserving the problem.
If you do end up doing the Archive and Install make sure that you do specify to Preserve user and Network settings.
