Question : Restrict access to move folders around.
|
|
Hello all,
I created a shared folder called public on my 2003 server, where all my users connect to as P:
All my users need to have access to this folder, to create modify and delete.
I have many accounting of my clients in there and one of my users moved around a bunch of sub-folders.
Is there a way to restrict the moving around of the folders ?
Thanks

you need to tighten up what your users can do at the parent folder level. For example if you have a shared folders called public with user directories called user1, user2, user2 and so on that is accessed by \\servername\public\user1\ then you need to tighten the security on the "public" folder. Rightclick the public folder (from the server) and choose properties, then go to the security tab, then press. the advanced button on this page. from there highlight your user/group and click view/edit to change their rights. make sure that "apply onto" is set to "this folder only" otherwise the changes you make here will be inherited by the downlevel folders which isn't what you want in this case. You need to remove their right to "create files/write data" and create folders/append data" This will prevent them from placing any files/folders in your parent directory. You will probably want to remove their delete rights from within this folder also.
