Question : Copying item loses the workflow history
|
|
Hello,
When I made a workflow which will move(copy and delete) a document after successful approval process to another location (document library). The workflow history and the task history will be also erased. I noticed that if I would leave the original document untouched it would have the history intact, but the copy would not have any history. Is there a workaround?, so that I could copy the whole "package" and not just the item.
Microsoft Offiice Sharepoint Server 2007, SQL 2000, Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition.
Thanks in advance...

There are several ways to move move documents with version history in MOSS 2007. I am unsure whether or not you can use a workflow to move the documents, but you might be able to modify the code in this solution to do so...

Note: I have not tried this yet as I really have no need of it right now.
If you are moving documents WITHIN A SITE, you can use Explorer View and cut/paste to move a document with history. You can also use the "Manage Site Content and Structure" tool available under the "Site Actions" drop-down on the root site. This will move the documents with the history accross sites.
There are also several 3rd party tools that can be used to move content. Triplewood has a tool that is decent... http://www.triplewood.com/triplewood/html/SPUtils.aspx, but again, I don't think a workflow can be set up to use it.
