Question : NTBackup not responding

Hi,
My NTBackup program is not responding.  After I launch it the usual thing happens that is it opens and defaults on the Welcome tab.  When I choose the Backup tab is where the problem occurs.  An hourglass comes up and stays there and never goes beyond that.
The event log shows the following:
Source:  Application Hang
Category (101)
Event ID 1002
Description:
Hanging application ntbackup.exe, version 5.2.3790.3959, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000
This is happening on my Windows 2003 Enterprise Server DC
I found a Microsoft hotfix that supposedly fixes a problem that matched my information above entirely.  It did not work however.  There has been no apparent single change.  I'll that I can do is end task on it or close and end program.  Has anyone ran into this and how do I fix?
Not sure if this a raid 5 array that is in resync mode could be causing it but thought I'd mention that.  This particular Raid 5 is on an external 12 Bay Sata NAS device.

Answer : NTBackup not responding

Got to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services.  Verify that the Removable Storage service can be started without hanging.

NTBACKUP also starts the Volume Shadow Copy service.  Verify that the Volume Shadow Copy service can be started and does not hang.

Look in the Event Log for errors related to the Removable Storage service and the Volume Shadow Copy service.

It could be a stuck volume.  NTBACKUP peeks at every volume on the computer so it can create the file tree.  Try running EXPLORER.EXE and verify that you can open and view every volume listed under Computer (C:, D:, E:, etc) without hanging.
