Question : Using NIS for Domain/Client

In Domain and client environment Linux world used NIS (Client/Server).
This sounds similar to Windows AD when it used PDC/BDC and clients.
Nowadays, LDAP is much more used in Linux more than NIS.
I would like to know if NIS is still used and it is still flawless , is it easy to use than LDAP?
what do you recommend for easiness and effectiveness?
Thanks

Answer : Using NIS for Domain/Client

NIS just works, however has proven its inability to really scale as well as LDAP.  NIS is limited to a subset of information it can store beyond groups and passwords where LDAP has support for pretty much everything.  As long as you have setup your schema correctly in the first place LDAP will just continue to work for you.

We still use NIS in the office, but are moving to LDAP in the near future.
