Question : sharing folders - no network provider accepted at given path
|
|
I am trying to share a folder on the Windows 2003 Server Box, and trying to access it with my Windows XP Professional Box. now...every time i do this, it asks for a password, seeing as its Windows 2003, i only have an admin account. So i enter the admin User Name and Password (for the Windows 2003 Box), then it says:
\\/ No network provider accepted the given network path. I have the network settings on the Windows 2003 Server with "Windows File And Printer Sharing" and "Client For Microsoft Networks", the Windows XP Box also has "Windows File And Printer Sharing" and "Client for Microsoft Networks" setup properly.
Any idea what is causing this error?

Try using:
\\servername\share
Without DNS working properly the NET USE (which is basically what is happening in the background using the above method) needs to use the computername.
Also, when providing credentials try using:
servername\Administrator
...as the username.
