Question : Internet gateway Icon in network devices - No Internet access
|
|
I have just installed XP on a Dell computer and installed all drivers. The computer operates on the office network correctly. can print access server files etc.
I can't seem to access the internet. i am useing Ip 192.168.0.250 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.0.1 Dns Servers are same as rest of the network.
Now all the details above are correct. I can ping the gateway and interact with the rest of the network. I can't browse the Internet. Windows firewall is disabled. No antivirus software is on the computer. I do notice in network devices a internet gateway icon which has the setting from another computer on the network (192.168.0.42) (I didn't set this up and I just installed from scratch so this is an automatic installation). the icon says disabled but i can't delete it.
I am guessing this is effecting my internet access. Other computers seem to connect to the internet through the adsl modem (default gateway 192.168.0.1) 2 other computers in the office have the same internet gateway icon that says connected and they seem to access the internet.
I have been using XP in a domain environment for a long time now and have never come accross this. (ussually set IP and all is well). Can any one help me access the internet from this PC? Should I remove Internet gateway discovery? Will this remove the device from my PC? Has anyone had this issue before?
thanks

Sounds like the Universal Plug and Pray feature of the router was enabled, and Windows UPNP setup that gateway.
Disable this service, and reboot, and the icon should be gone...Or you can disable UPnP in the router....
